Vacation

I'm in Oahu. It's been rainy the entire time we've been here. Filia spent most of this morning vomiting and exhibiting other gastrointestinal symptoms that I decline to describe. I stubbed my toe. All of us have been stung by Portuguese men o' war. (Discussion of pluralization of the name of said cnidarian here.)

On the other hand, it's beautiful here, east of the Ko'olau mountain range (why does anybody stay in Waikiki?). I would be a churl to complain.

Poor Filia! Since you only said "most of this morning" I'm guessing it's just come on quickly - may she get better equally quickly!

Yes, she's doing much better, thanks! It was, as medical people say "self-limiting" (I suspect food poisoning from the shrimp truck where we ate lunch yesterday). She was pretty much recovered by noon, but we spent the afternoon getting her rehydrated and slowly reintroducing foods and reassuring ourselves that she's okay.

Oh poor Filia; it's never fun to get sick (food poisoning?) while on vacation. And ouch about the Men O'War... we're seeing a lot more of them washing up on the shore on the East Coast lately too.

I think it must have been food poisoning, because it came and went so suddenly. I suspect the shrimp truck where we had lunch the day before.

Luckily none of the stings were very bad. I now wish I'd gotten a better look at the critter that stung me (I'd never seen one before), but I was too busy trying to shake it off my foot.
