Even the river name is wonderful- Nidelva! (I wonder if it sounds as I'm imagining it - I'm saying it rather slow, with the emphasis on the middle syllable. I love the stone lacework on the cathedral. :)
I think the emphasis is on the first syllable, actually. That's how it is with Nidaros Cathedral (Nidaros being the older name of Trondheim).
The cathedral is gorgeous, and we were lucky to hear part of a rehearsal for an organ concert while we were there. There's a museum nearby that has a fascinating series of models showing the footprint of the cathedral with buildings at various stages: first a little shrine, then a church, then the cathedral (built over a period of more than a century), then the effect of a catastrophic fire that destroyed half the church, then subsequent rebuilding.
Oh, well - with regard to the name. :) I'll tuck it away (i.e.my mistaken version) for later reworking into a name somewhere. I love it in travel (or indeed, on home turf) when there's that accidental blundering into something marvellous in itself, but feeling so much like a gift when it just presents itself unexpectedly!
