Thanks! I think I will be able to have fun with it, and it's giving me an excuse to reread one of my favorite books while paying particular attention to a couple of characters whose inner lives I had never thought much about before. So basically it's all right, just...I had to do a little bit of mental adjustment. The book is a first-person narrative with a very peculiar idiom that I would have a hard time capturing, but since the characters requested aren't viewpoint characters at least I don't need to worry about that!

Man, it's hard to talk about this without giving anything away about the prompt, although since I don't know the requester at all I suppose it wouldn't matter too much if it did. She's not going to have her surprise spoiled for her.

Thanks! If nothing else, I have learned the utility of the "dear author" letter, 'cause I have literally nothing to go on except the prompt!

I have no idea what sort of fic my requester likes -- I can't find any of her own fic on AO3 or ff.net, and aside from the fandom on which we were matched, her prompts are for fandoms I don't know and/or am not interested in. As far as I know she's not on dreamwidth or lj. She does have a tumblr account, from which I was able to glean her gender identity and approximate age, but nothing else really useful. (Maybe I could find something useful if I understood tumblr better.)

The prompt itself is fine. Luckily she doesn't seem to want porn. :-)

Tumblr is damnably difficult to use for anything other than a right-here-right-now flow of posts on one's dash (aka reading list). Trying to use it for in-depth discussion is frustrating. Trying to use it as a searchable archive is next to impossible, and the site owners/maintainers seem bound and determined to maliciously break any attempts by the users to kludge together ways to do anything besides share cat macros. *headdesk*
